Gouranga Setu Faces Six-Week Traffic Curbs for Bridge Repairs
A very important bridge in Nadia, called Sri Gouranga Setu, needs some fixing.
It's like giving a building some new support beams to make it stronger and safer.
Because the workers need quiet and steady conditions to do this important job, they have to close the bridge to traffic sometimes.
For some parts of the work, no cars will be allowed at all.
Other times, only smaller and lighter cars can cross, and they have to drive very, very slowly, like a snail.
This will happen for about six weeks, starting in mid-November.
People who usually use this bridge will have to find other ways to travel or expect longer journeys.
The authorities are asking everyone to be patient and cooperate so the repairs can be done safely and the bridge can be used for many more years to come.
Six-week traffic restrictions are in place on Sri Gouranga Setu from November 15 to December 31 for bridge repairs.
The repair work, involving replacement of metallic bearings and structural components, necessitates phased traffic regulations.
During complete closure phases, no vehicles will be allowed; during partial closure, only vehicles up to 3.00 metric tonnes and 2.25 metres in height are permitted.
A maximum speed limit of 5 kmph will be enforced for vehicles allowed during partial closure to minimize vibration.
Commuters between Krishnagar and Nabadwip should expect disruptions and potential congestion on alternative routes.
