Indian Hotels CEO: High Taxes Hamper Hospitality Sector Growth
The boss of Indian Hotels, Puneet Chhatwal, says India can attract lots of tourists but faces hurdles.
He says the hospitality business is taxed too much.
This makes it tough to create big-name hotels that attract visitors from around the world.
Chhatwal mentioned the government's plan to improve 50 tourist spots but wants the government to treat the hospitality sector like an industry and provide more support.
He believes India has lots of potential to bring in tourists.
He's also seeking additional support to help the sector thrive.
He mentioned that the high taxes, and marketing the destination, are creating a competitive disadvantage.
Puneet Chhatwal, MD and CEO of Indian Hotels Company Limited, cited high taxes as a key impediment.
Chhatwal spoke at CII's Annual Business Summit.
He mentioned the 'infrastructure' status given to 50 tourist destinations in the budget.
Chhatwal reiterated the need for 'industry' status for the hospitality sector.
India's potential to attract foreign tourists is immense but needs better conditions.
