Calcutta Stock Exchange Revival Uncertain as Formal Plan Pending
A stock exchange is a special market where people buy and sell shares of companies.
The Calcutta Stock Exchange is one of the oldest such markets in India.
For a while, it looked like this exchange might close down for good.
That closing-down process is called an exit.
In July, the exchange asked its regulator, called SEBI, to pause the exit application.
That means it seemed to want to stay open after all.
But a formal plan to keep it going has not been submitted yet.
A government minister named Pankaj Chaudhary told Parliament about this on Tuesday.
So right now, it is still unclear what will happen to the exchange.
Its future is still being decided.
The Calcutta Stock Exchange (CSE) has not yet submitted a formal revival plan to SEBI.
The CSE appears to have stepped back from its proposed exit from operations.
Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary disclosed the development in Parliament on Tuesday.
The CSE approached SEBI in July to seek a pause of its exit application.
The government said the request to reconsider the exit has not been followed by a formal revival proposal.
