UN Chief Issues New Year Message in Hindi
The head of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, gave a special message for the new year.
He said the world is in a bad state with lots of fighting and problems like climate change.
He wants leaders to spend more money on helping people and less on wars.
This is because there's a lot more money spent on military things than on things that help people.
For the first time, his message was also shared in Hindi, which is a big language in India.
India is helping the UN to use more Hindi by giving them money for this project.
He mentioned that over 200 million people need help and nearly 120 million people have had to leave their homes because of wars and disasters.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres issued his New Year message in Hindi for the first time, calling on world leaders to prioritize development aid over military spending.
Guterres highlighted global issues such as chaos, uncertainty, division, violence, and climate breakdown, noting that over 200 million people need humanitarian assistance and nearly 120 million are forcibly displaced.
Global military spending has reached $2.7 trillion, which is 13 times more than all development aid, and is projected to more than double by 2035 if current trends persist.
India has pledged $1.5 million per year for the next five years to support the Hindi@UN Project, renewing its commitment to promote Hindi at the UN.
The Hindi@UN Project, established in 2018, focuses on broadcasting UN news in Hindi and reflects India's commitment to multilingualism.
