Key Changes in Indian Financial Regulations and Systems
SEBI, the market watchdog, slapped a lot more penalties on rule breakers this year.
Even though they fined more people, the total amount of fines went way up.
Also, the rules for handling bad debts are being changed to make things quicker.
Cheques will also clear much faster starting in October 2025, taking just a few hours instead of a couple of days.
These changes aim to make financial processes smoother and more efficient.
SEBI penalties surged 11 times to ₹813.83 crore in 2024-25 due to market regulation violations.
The number of entities violating securities regulations decreased by 26% in 2024-25.
The highest number of violations were under the Prohibition of Fraudulent and Unfair Trade Practices (PFUTP) category.
Amendments to the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) are proposed to ensure faster insolvency case admissions.
The RBI will roll out a new cheque clearing system within hours starting October 2025.
