Om Birla Says Women’s Quota Will Expand Political Leadership

Om Birla Says Women’s Quota Will Expand Political Leadership

Om Birla said a new law reserving one-third of seats for women could help more women become political leaders.

The rule applies to India’s national Parliament and state Assemblies.

He said this could create new opportunities for women in politics.

Birla also said women may one day make up more than half of the country’s public services.

He made these comments at a workshop about making government work better for all genders.

The government wants to implement the reservation law before the 2029 national election.

It tried to change the law during the Budget Session.

That effort did not receive the required two-thirds majority in the Lok Sabha.
