High Court Criticizes Gujarat State Over Prosecutor Change
The Gujarat High Court said the state was changing the prosecutor in a murder case too many times, which slows the trial.
The court asked why the state was doing this and said the current prosecutor had already examined many witnesses.
The state said it needed to speed up the trial.
The court said changing prosecutors causes delays.
The case will be decided again on Tuesday.
Gujarat High Court criticized the state for repeatedly replacing the Special Public Prosecutor in the 2019 custodial death case.
The court said such changes delay the trial and questioned the state's justification for replacing the prosecutor.
The state argued that earlier prosecutors were not progressing fast enough, prompting the changes.
The court noted that 51 witnesses had been examined by the current prosecutor since April 2024, indicating progress.
The matter was adjourned to Tuesday for a final decision on whether to keep the current prosecutor.
