IYC Chief Challenges Delhi Police Denial of Jantar Mantar Protest

IYC Chief Challenges Delhi Police Denial of Jantar Mantar Protest

The Indian Youth Congress wanted to hold a peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar.

It asked the police for permission on September 25.

The police rejected the request on October 1, the proposed date of the protest.

The group says it was ready to follow rules about safety, traffic and public order.

Its president, Uday Bhanu Chib, has asked the Delhi High Court to review the refusal.

The petition says rules should help manage peaceful protests, not stop them without a careful reason.

The filing came a day after IYC workers protested against the Election Commission.

They called for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to resign over alleged problems with voter rolls.
