YouTube Changes View Counting Without Directly Changing Creator Earnings

YouTube is changing what it calls a view.

Starting August 24, 2026, a view will count as soon as a video starts playing.

This will apply to regular videos, Shorts, and live streams around the world.

Creators may see larger public view numbers than before.

However, the larger numbers will not automatically mean more money.

YouTube says earnings and Partner Programme eligibility will still use other engagement measures.

YouTube is also warning that repetitive or mass-produced content may not qualify for monetization.

Beginning February 1, 2027, new creators will face higher requirements for advertising and YouTube Premium revenue.
