Why Gary, Indiana, Remained Without Power For 12 Days

A strong storm hit Gary, Indiana, and caused many power outages.

The worst part of the storm lasted only five to 10 minutes.

Even so, trees fell and damaged equipment that carries electricity.

Some people had no power for 12 days.

Northern Indiana Public Service Company worked to repair the damage.

The company said it restored power to more than 345,000 customers.

However, almost 30,000 people were still without electricity on Sunday morning.

Crews continued working to reconnect those customers.
