Bajaj General Insurance CEO Advocates 100% FDI
Tapan Singhel, the head of Bajaj General Insurance, wants the government to allow 100% foreign investment in insurance companies.
He believes this will bring in a lot of money and create many jobs.
Right now, there are only about 70 general insurance companies in India, but he thinks there should be at least 1,000.
Each new company would need to invest a lot of money and create thousands of jobs.
This would make the insurance market bigger and give customers more choices and better prices.
The government is planning to increase the foreign investment limit to 100%, which could bring in new technology and better services.
Tapan Singhel advocates for 100% FDI in the general insurance sector to enhance penetration and attract investments.
Potential FDI of Rs 10 lakh crore and creation of 25 million jobs if 10% of global insurers enter the Indian market.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced an increase in the FDI limit from 74% to 100% in the Budget for 2025-26.
Each new insurer would need to invest a minimum of Rs 1,000 crore and create approximately 25,000 jobs.
Increased competition would benefit customers by providing better prices and more options.
