Kolkata Mobilizes School Kids for Census 2027 Self-Enumeration
The city of Kolkata wants to make the 2027 census easier by asking kids in schools to help their families fill out online forms.
Teachers will pick a student to be the ‘census prefect’ and a teacher to talk to city officials.
The city hopes 25 to 30 lakh families will do this on their own.
They will also ask people in apartment buildings and in poorer neighborhoods to join.
The online form will open on August 1, and the census will start the next day.
KMC is recruiting students from grades VIII–XII to encourage digital self‑enumeration for the 2027 census.
Schools are asked to appoint a census prefect and a nodal teacher to liaise with borough officers.
The city aims to have 25–30 lakh families self‑enumerated, targeting 8,200 enumerators across 8,105 house blocks in 144 wards.
KMC plans to involve high‑rise societies, Solid Waste Management staff, and bustee areas in awareness drives.
The self‑enumeration website will open at midnight on 1 August, with the census scheduled to start on Saturday.
