India's Fertilizer Imports Surge Amid Rabi Season

India's Fertilizer Imports Surge Amid Rabi Season

India has seen a big increase in fertilizer imports, with a 60% rise in the first eight months of the current fiscal year.

This is because farmers are planting more winter crops, and the government wants to make sure there are enough fertilizers available.

The imports include urea, DAP, and NPK, but MOP imports have decreased.

The government spends a lot on subsidies to keep fertilizer prices low, which helps farmers but can also hurt soil health.

At the same time, the sowing of rabi crops is almost complete, with wheat and other crops seeing good coverage.

The government expects a good harvest this year, similar to the record highs of last year.
