Assam Enacts ASHEC Act to Reform Higher Education
The Assam government made a new law called the ASHEC Act.
It creates a big council that will help colleges and universities in the state.
The council will plan how to make schools better, use new technology, and keep teaching good.
It will also look at how schools do and help them follow rules.
The law follows a national plan that says every state should have a council to make education better.
Assam government passed the Assam State Higher Education Council (ASHEC) Act, 2026.
The Act creates ASHEC as the state’s apex body for higher education, working with universities and colleges.
It introduces the State Higher Education Plan (SHEP) to guide long‑term development using data.
