Buxa Tiger Reserve Relocation Approved by NTCA Panel
The Buxa Tiger Reserve in West Bengal is getting a boost to protect tigers.
A group called the National Tiger Conservation Authority said it is okay to move people from a village called Jainti out of the reserve’s core area.
About 433 families agreed to move to a new village called Ban Chhaya.
They will get money, a piece of land, and a house to build.
A tigress will be brought to the reserve on October 2, 2024, to help more tigers live there.
The move might change how tourists visit Jainti, which is a popular spot in the area.
NTCA panel approved relocation of Jainti forest village residents from Buxa Tiger Reserve core area.
Around 433 family units agreed to move to Ban Chhaya village, receiving ₹15 lakh compensation per unit.
A tigress will be introduced to the reserve on October 2 as part of tiger augmentation.
Compensation includes ₹7.5 lakh upfront, land allotment, and a second instalment after house completion.
