Liberty Media Gets Green Light to Acquire MotoGP
Imagine the Formula 1 company, Liberty Media, wants to buy the company that runs MotoGP motorcycle racing, called Dorna Sports.
The European Union had to check if this would be fair.
They decided it was okay because they didn't think it would make it too expensive to watch races on TV.
Liberty Media is now buying Dorna Sports for a lot of money, and it's a done deal.
The people who already run MotoGP will still be in charge, so things won't change too much, except Liberty Media hopes to make motorcycle racing popular in more places, just like they did with Formula 1.
Liberty Media's acquisition of MotoGP's owner, Dorna Sports, was approved by the European Commission.
The deal, valuing Dorna at €4.3 billion, is expected to close by July 3, 2025.
The European Commission investigated potential impacts on broadcasting rights costs.
Liberty Media will retain MotoGP's core management team, including CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta.
Liberty Media aims to expand MotoGP's global audience, including in the U.S.
