Ahmedabad 2030 Commonwealth Games: India’s Olympic Test
India is getting ready to host the Commonwealth Games in 2030 in the city of Ahmedabad.
This big sports event will have many sports, and India can choose which ones to include, like cricket or kabaddi.
The government says this will show the world that India can run a huge event, which could help it win the 2036 Olympics.
The 2026 Games in Glasgow showed that a smaller, cheaper version is possible, so Ahmedabad will try to do the same.
The Games will also help build new sports facilities and improve roads and transport for people in the city.
Ahmedabad, India, will host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, a key step toward a 2036 Olympic bid.
The Games will feature 15‑18 sports, with flexibility to include Indian sports such as cricket, kabaddi, and kho‑kho.
Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi said the event will prove India’s readiness for the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The 2026 Glasgow Games demonstrated a lean, cost‑effective model that Ahmedabad plans to emulate with existing venues and public‑private partnerships.
The event is seen as a test of India’s sporting infrastructure, legacy, and ability to host a major international event.
