Bengaluru Metro Pink Line Delayed by BEML Train Production Issues
The new Pink Line subway in Bengaluru is not ready to open because the company making the trains, BEML, is having trouble.
BEML was supposed to give the first new train to the metro by June 2025, but they are behind schedule.
They need special parts and places to test the trains to make sure they are safe, and they don't have them yet.
This means the trains might not be ready until late 2025, and the metro might not open until after May 2026.
This is similar to a problem that happened before with another metro line, the Yellow Line.
The Bengaluru Metro Pink Line's elevated section is ready, but trial runs are delayed due to a shortage of trains.
BEML, the train manufacturer, has not delivered the prototype train by the original June 2025 deadline.
Delays are attributed to missing components like gearbox assemblies and the lack of specialized safety testing facilities in India.
BEML now anticipates prototype delivery in December 2025, but testing could push the opening of the elevated section beyond May 2026.
BEML has a contract to supply 53 driverless trains for the Blue and Pink Lines, with 7 additional Pink Line trains ordered later.
