CCI Orders Probe Against BFI for Abuse of Dominance
The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has ordered an investigation into the Basketball Federation of India (BFI) for possibly misusing its power.
The issue started when a group called Elite Pro Basketball (EPBPL) wanted to start a new basketball league but didn't get a response from BFI.
Later, BFI asked for a meeting but EPBPL said BFI wanted too much money to partner.
EPBPL also said BFI warned players, referees, and coaches not to join EPBPL's tournaments.
The CCI thinks BFI might be forcing everyone to only join their tournaments, which could be against the rules.
The CCI has asked an official to look into this and report back in 60 days.
CCI orders probe against BFI for allegedly abusing its dominant position.
BFI refused to authorize or recognize third-party events like EPBPL without justification.
EPBPL sought BFI's approval in 2022 for a new basketball league but received no response.
BFI allegedly warned players, referees, and coaches not to participate in unauthorized events.
CCI directs Director General to investigate and submit a report within 60 days.
