Rajya Sabha Continues Amid Opposition Protest Over Police Crackdown
During a big meeting in New Delhi, the Rajya Sabha, which is part of India's Parliament, kept going even though some members were upset about police using force on students who were protesting about exam papers leaking.
The meeting talked about a new law that would make it harder for people to cheat on exams and would set up special courts to deal with exam crimes.
The chairman of the Rajya Sabha, CP Radhakrishnan, added this law to the list of things to discuss.
Some opposition members, led by Pramod Tiwari, wanted the Home Minister, Amit Shah, to come to the meeting and explain why the police used force.
The chairman did not let them bring him in.
The leader of the house, J P Nadda, said the opposition was being negative and that the government was ready to talk about any issue.
Rajya Sabha proceeded with Zero Hour and Question Hour despite opposition walkouts over police crackdown on youth protesting paper leaks at Jantar Mantar.
Chairman CP Radhakrishnan added the Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 to the business list after a notice from Union Minister Jitendra Singh.
The Bill, passed by Lok Sabha, creates special fast‑track courts for exam‑related offences and tougher action against paper leaks.
Opposition leader Pramod Tiwari demanded Home Minister Amit Shah appear in the House to answer for the crackdown; the Chairman ignored the request.
Leader of the House J P Nadda criticized the opposition’s negative stance and said the government was willing to discuss any matter.
