Telangana Gram Panchayat Elections Update
The Telangana State Teachers and Colleges Employees Association (TSTCEA) has asked for holidays in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts on the upcoming gram panchayat election dates.
This is because many universities and colleges have exams scheduled on the same days, which could stop thousands of students and employees from voting.
The association says that many students come from rural areas and are registered to vote in their home villages.
Similarly, employees often travel back to their hometowns to vote.
The association believes that holding exams on election days goes against the goal of getting as many people to vote as possible.
They want the universities to postpone the exams and for the state government to declare holidays so that everyone can vote.
Meanwhile, the State Election Commission (SEC) has announced that 415 sarpanches have been elected unopposed, and five villages recorded no valid nominations in the second phase of sarpanch elections.
A total of 13,128 candidates remain in the fray for 3,911 sarpanch posts, with polling scheduled for December 14.
In ward elections, 8,304 ward members were elected unanimously out of 38,322 ward seats notified.
The district administration of Ranga Reddy has also provided updates on the election process, including the number of candidates, polling stations, and the withdrawal of nominations.
Additionally, preparations are underway for the Telangana Rising Global Summit-2025, scheduled to be held at Bharat Future City on December 8-9.
TSTCEA urged the Chief Electoral Officer to declare holidays in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts on election dates.
Exams are scheduled on December 11, 14, and 17, overlapping with the gram panchayat elections.
The association argues that this overlap could prevent students and employees from voting.
