Bar Council of India Asks Delhi Lawyers to End Strike
Imagine lawyers in Delhi decided to stop working, but the top lawyers' group, the Bar Council of India (BCI), told them not to.
The BCI said lawyers aren't supposed to strike, according to the Supreme Court.
The lawyers were striking because of a new rule.
This rule lets police give evidence in court through video calls from police stations.
The BCI reminded the lawyers that only they can make rules about how lawyers act.
So, they asked the Delhi lawyers to stop their strike.
The Bar Council of India (BCI) urged Delhi lawyers to end their strike.
The strike was in protest of a notification by L-G V K Saxena.
The notification allows police to give evidence via video conferencing.
The BCI cited a Supreme Court ruling against lawyer strikes.
The BCI is the statutory body that regulates advocates.
