CCPA Fines E-Commerce Platforms for Illegal Walkie-Talkie Sales
The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) in India has fined several e-commerce platforms, including Meesho, Meta (Facebook Marketplace), Flipkart, and Amazon, for selling walkie-talkies without proper regulatory information.
These walkie-talkies were listed without telling buyers about the need for licenses and certifications required by Indian law.
The CCPA found over 16,970 listings that did not follow the rules.
The platforms were also selling devices that operate on restricted radio frequencies without proper approvals, which can interfere with important communication networks used by police and emergency services.
The CCPA has directed these companies to remove non-compliant listings and ensure that future listings have the correct information.
The authority has also introduced new rules to prevent such issues in the future.
CCPA fined Meesho, Meta, Flipkart, and Amazon ₹10 lakh each for selling walkie-talkies without proper regulatory disclosures.
Chimiya, JioMart, Talk Pro, and MaskMan Toys were fined ₹1 lakh each for similar violations.
Over 16,970 non-compliant listings for walkie-talkies were identified, many operating on restricted frequencies without approvals.
Walkie-talkies sold without proper disclosures about frequency bands, licensing requirements, and ETA certification.
CCPA issued new guidelines requiring e-commerce platforms to verify frequency compliance, check for ETA certification, and ban misleading advertisements.
