India Marks 80th Independence Day with Wishes, Messages, Quotes

Many years ago, India was ruled by another country called Britain.

After a long struggle, India became free on August 15, 1947.

On August 15, 2026, India celebrates this special day for the 80th time.

It is a national holiday, so people celebrate across the country and around the world.

People hoist the national flag and wear clothes in the colours of the Tricolour.

There are games, cultural programmes and other celebrations.

A famous leader, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, once said India would "awake to life and freedom" at midnight.

However, the day also reminds people of the Partition, when the country was divided.

That time brought communal violence, displacement and sadness.

Even though the day is joyful, Indians also remember this painful part of history.
