Mizoram teachers suspend agitation after government pledge
In Mizoram, a group of teachers who work in special high schools were upset because new rules might make their schools less important.
They had been walking away from school for eight days.
On July 30, the teachers met with a government leader named Lalmuanpuia Punte.
He promised to talk about the teachers’ complaints with a big committee.
Because of that promise, the teachers stopped their protest and will go back to teaching on August 3.
They will wait to see what the committee decides before deciding what to do next.
Teachers of ad hoc aided high schools in Mizoram halted an eight‑day protest on July 30.
The teachers’ group, MIGAHTA, had been demanding provincialisation and opposed new rules that would downgrade their schools.
A meeting with ZPM vice‑president Lalmuanpuia Punte led to a government promise to discuss grievances with the Political Affairs Committee.
The next PAC meeting is scheduled for August 12, 2023, and its decision will guide further action.
Teachers will resume normal duties on August 3 but will keep the protest suspended until the PAC’s decision.
