Kerala's Laloor Garbage Dump Transformed into Rs 59 Crore Sports Hub
Imagine a big hill made of trash that made the nearby town smell bad and caused sickness for many years.
People who lived there felt sad because they couldn't even invite friends over.
Then, the government decided to clean up the trash hill.
They spent a lot of money to remove all the old garbage.
After that, they built a super cool sports place with a big indoor stadium, a soccer field, a swimming pool, and courts for games like basketball and tennis.
Now, the town doesn't smell bad anymore, and people are happy and proud to live there.
It's named after a famous soccer player from the town, and it's like magic how the garbage hill turned into a fun place for everyone to play and be healthy.
Laloor, a former garbage dumping ground in Kerala's Thrissur district, has been transformed into a Rs 59-crore sports complex named after I M Vijayan.
The 14-acre complex features an indoor stadium, synthetic turf football court, tennis court, swimming pool, and courts for badminton, volleyball, and basketball.
The transformation addresses decades of hardship faced by residents due to accumulated waste, including diseases and social stigma.
The project was initiated following an election promise to develop the site, with the Thrissur Municipal Corporation facilitating the land transfer.
Legacy waste was removed through bio-mining, and waste management initiatives like the Haritha Karma Sena are in place to prevent future accumulation.
