Iran Threatens Persian Gulf Oil Halt Amid US Economic Pressure

Iran and the United States are in a serious disagreement over economic sanctions.

Iran calls the American pressure an economic war.

Mohsen Rezaei warned that Iran might stop all oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz and other parts of the Persian Gulf.

He also warned countries helping the United States that Iran could treat their support as an act of war.

The United States was preparing new financial measures against Iran and countries trading with it.

Other Iranian officials said sanctions are not new to Iran and could eventually hurt the countries imposing them.

China said pressure and sanctions would not solve the disagreement and urged diplomacy.

A major disruption to the Strait of Hormuz could affect oil shipments and prices around the world.
