IIT Bombay Students Seek Reforms After Sahil Wakode’s Death

Sahil Wakode was a 22-year-old student at IIT Bombay who died in his hostel room.

Reports said he had allegedly been found using a phone to access ChatGPT during an examination.

Students said their protests are not meant to support cheating.

They want the institute to improve student welfare and mental-health support.

They also want students to have more say in decisions affecting them.

Sahil’s family accused Professor Suryanarayana Doolla and others of caste discrimination, while the investigation continues.

Doolla was removed from his administrative post but remains a teacher at the institute.

IIT Bombay apologized for making an earlier statement before the facts had been fully investigated and plans to replace ceiling fans with wall-mounted fans.
