Delhi Man Challenges Meta Over Alleged Smart-Glasses Recording
A man in Delhi says an Instagram creator secretly recorded him at a café.
The recording allegedly happened while he was being approached, harassed, and followed by a stranger.
The creator allegedly used smart glasses with a built-in camera.
The video was posted on Instagram without the man’s consent and was viewed by many people.
Some viewers reportedly made fun of him in the comments.
He reported the video, but Instagram said it did not break its rules.
A digital-rights group is helping him challenge Meta and the creator.
He wants the video removed, an apology, and money for the harm he says he suffered.
A Delhi man sent legal notices to Meta and an Instagram creator over an alleged covert recording at a Khan Market café.
The creator allegedly used Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses and posted the footage as an Instagram reel on July 26, 2026.
The video reportedly surpassed 4.19 lakh views and attracted hundreds of comments ridiculing the man over 10 days.
Instagram told the man that the footage did not violate its community standards after he reported it.
With pro bono assistance from the Internet Freedom Foundation, he is seeking removal, an apology, and Rs 2.05 crore in damages.

Privacy and manufacturer responsibility

The man and IFF argue that covertly recording and publishing the footage violated his privacy. IFF says Meta may be liable for the glasses’ design and marketing, and owed the man a duty of care independent of its intermediary role.
Meta and Instagram’s Reported Position
Meta’s substantive response to the legal notice was not reported. The articles describe the legal notice as an attempt to establish manufacturer liability, not as a final court ruling.
Visibility of recording

IFF contends that the glasses are deliberately styled to resemble ordinary spectacles and that their recording indicator is inadequate and easy to overlook.
Meta and Instagram’s Reported Position
The articles state that the glasses include an indicator light near the right temple that activates for video recording and flashes when taking a photograph.
Platform moderation and grievance handling
