Chandigarh to See Slight Increase in Electricity Tariffs from November 1
Starting November 1, people in Chandigarh will pay a little more for electricity.
A special commission called JERC has decided on new prices for power that will be in place for the next five years.
The price will go up by a small amount each year, about 2% on average.
This is much less than the power company, CPDL, had asked for.
CPDL wants to make the electricity system better and more reliable.
They also changed how they count electricity usage, dividing it into smaller chunks.
The company says they will work hard to improve services for everyone.
Electricity tariffs in Chandigarh will increase starting November 1.
The Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) approved the new Multi-Year Tariff (MYT) order for the financial years 2025-26 to 2029-30.
An average annual tariff increase of approximately 2% has been approved over the five-year period.
This approved increase is significantly lower than the 7.57% proposed by the Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited (CPDL) for FY 2025-26.
CPDL has also changed the electricity slab system to five categories, each comprising 100 units.
