Tamil Nadu Man's Scooter Library Revives Reading
There is a man named Simon in Tamil Nadu who loves reading and wants to share this love with others.
He has turned his scooter into a small library and sets it up by the roadside every evening.
He has around 1000 books, and every day he displays about 100 of them for people to read.
Anyone can read the books right there or take them home and return them later.
Simon doesn't charge any money for this service.
Many people, including children, have started reading because of his initiative.
Simon also helps young writers by publishing their books and connecting them with readers.
He hopes to start similar libraries in other places like Erode and Thanjavur with the help of local readers and writers.
Simon, a 32-year-old postgraduate from Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, has turned his scooter into a mobile roadside library to promote reading.
He sets up his library, called Kumizhmunai, near the Tuticorin-Tirunelveli highway every evening between 8 and 10 PM, displaying around 100 books from his collection of 1000.
People can read books on the spot or take them home for free, with no money charged for the service.
This initiative has motivated nearly 1000 people, including 43 children, to read, with many visiting regularly.
Simon also nurtures writing by helping young writers publish around 50 books and connecting them with readers through in-person reviews and online discussions.
