IISWBM Proposal to Become University
The Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management (IISWBM) in Kolkata wants to become a university.
The education minister, Bratya Basu, said they will talk to the chief minister, Mamata Banerjee, about this idea.
Right now, IISWBM is part of Calcutta University and offers an MBA program.
Becoming a university would let them give their own degrees, make their own study plans, and get more money for research.
They also want a second campus in New Town.
The institute's leader, Abhijit Chakrabarti, said this change will help them grow and offer new courses like MBA in fire and safety management and hospitality management.
The chief minister first suggested this idea in 2017, but it didn't move forward until now.
IISWBM proposes to transition into a university to gain independence from Calcutta University.
