EU Sees Electric Vehicle Sales Surpass Petrol in December
In December 2025, more electric cars were sold in the European Union than petrol cars for the first time.
This happened even though the EU proposed to make the rules for car emissions less strict.
Tesla, a popular electric car brand from the US, sold fewer cars, while Chinese brand BYD and European brand Volkswagen sold more.
Overall, car sales in Europe have been growing for six months in a row, but they are still not as high as before the pandemic.
The EU also decided to not ban cars with combustion engines in 2035, which some groups say is not good for the environment.
Experts think electric cars will still become more popular.
