ICoAS plays key role in government cost optimisation: Defence Secretary
In India, there is a special group of government workers called the Indian Cost Accounts Service, or ICoAS for short.
Their job is to help the government spend money wisely and not waste it.
Recently, they had a special birthday celebration for their service.
A very important official, the Defence Secretary, spoke at the celebration.
He said these workers do a great job helping the defence department and other government offices manage their money.
The theme of the celebration was about helping India become self-reliant, which is called Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Other officials said these experts also help Indian factories make more things at home instead of buying from other countries.
Six young officers were given special certificates because they worked very hard.
During the celebration, people also talked about how computers and artificial intelligence could help the government manage money better.
It was a day to say thank you to the people who watch over government spending.
Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh highlighted the Indian Cost Accounts Service's role in cost optimisation, prudent resource utilisation and financial oversight across government departments, especially defence.
The ICoAS Foundation Day was celebrated under the theme 'Role of ICoAS Officers in Cost Optimisation for Atmanirbhar Bharat' in New Delhi.
Sanjeev Kumar of the Department of Defence Production said cost accounting expertise is key to indigenous manufacturing, reducing import reliance and boosting export competitiveness.
V. Vualnam of the Department of Expenditure stressed ICoAS officers' role in cost efficiency, risk allocation and project structuring as private participation and PPPs grow.
A commemorative e-brochure was released, six young officers received appreciation certificates, and technical sessions included a talk on AI in public financial management.
