BJP Plans Major Uttar Pradesh Ticket Overhaul Ahead Elections
The BJP is preparing carefully for the next Uttar Pradesh assembly election.
It wants to choose candidates who have a strong chance of winning.
More than 100 current BJP lawmakers could lose their party tickets.
Surveys will be used to check whether lawmakers are popular with voters.
The party also wants senior leaders to agree on candidates instead of fighting over them.
BJP leaders believe internal disagreements hurt the party in the 2024 national election.
They also say some voters stayed home and some party workers did not campaign actively.
The party is now organizing workers at polling-booth level and planning voter-awareness drives.
It hopes these changes will help it win Uttar Pradesh for a third consecutive time.
The BJP may deny tickets to more than 100 of its 255 sitting MLAs in Uttar Pradesh.
Candidate selection will rely on surveys, winning prospects and consensus among senior leaders.
The party’s Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha tally fell from 62 seats in 2019 to 36 in 2024.
BJP leaders cite anti-incumbency, internal rifts, alleged sabotage and low voter turnout for the setback.
The party is strengthening booth-level committees and plans to give more tickets to youth and women.
