Blackstone Considers $5B Sale of Beacon Offshore
Blackstone, a big investment company, is thinking about selling Beacon Offshore Energy, a company that drills for oil in the Gulf of Mexico.
They've owned it for about 10 years and think it could be worth more than $5 billion.
Big oil companies like Chevron, BP, and Shell might be interested in buying it.
Beacon has some really good oil wells, especially in a place called the Shenandoah prospect.
This area is hard to drill in, so companies had to invent new ways to get the oil out.
Blackstone hasn't decided for sure if they will sell it yet.
Blackstone is considering selling Beacon Offshore Energy, a Gulf of Mexico driller, for over $5 billion.
The company is in early talks with investment banks for a potential sale in the first quarter.
Beacon's assets include 68 deepwater leases across nearly 400,000 gross acres.
Major oil producers like Chevron, BP, and Shell could be interested in acquiring Beacon.
Beacon's biggest wells are part of the Shenandoah prospect, discovered by Occidental Petroleum's Anadarko in 2009.
