Karnataka HC Grants Interim Relief to Cafe Coffee Day in FEMA Case
The Karnataka High Court has temporarily helped Cafe Coffee Day (CCD) in a case about foreign money rules.
The court said the Enforcement Directorate (ED) can't question CCD's leaders until the court makes a decision on February 23.
CCD said the ED didn't follow the right steps and took too long to start the case.
The court will hear more about this later.
The case is about money CCD got from outside India in 2010, which the ED says was used in a way that breaks the rules.
The court also earlier helped CCD's CEO, Malavika Hegde, by stopping the case against her for now.
Karnataka High Court postponed the ED's personal hearing of CCD representatives scheduled for January 30.
The court's order will remain in effect until it hears CCD's plea on February 23.
CCD argued that the ED did not follow proper procedures and that the long delay makes the FEMA proceedings invalid.
The FEMA proceedings were initiated due to alleged violations in the use of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) received by CCD in 2010.
The court had earlier granted interim relief to CCD's CEO, Malavika Hegde, on January 19.
