Supreme Court to Hear Delhi Plea on Vehicle Ban
The Supreme Court is reviewing a rule that stops old cars from driving in Delhi.
These are called End-of-Life Vehicles.
The rule says that cars older than a certain age can't be on the road.
The Delhi government disagrees with this rule because it thinks that it should look at how much pollution each car causes rather than its age.
The government wants to use a method that checks pollution levels instead, making the rules fairer for everyone.
Supreme Court to hear Delhi government's plea against the blanket ban on overaged vehicles.
The ban, based on a 2018 directive, prohibits diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years.
The Delhi government is challenging the ban.
ELVs are defined as waste vehicles, or those with cancelled registrations, or declared unfit by Automated Fitness Centres.
The government wants emission-based criteria instead of age-based restrictions.
