India's First LNG-Powered Passenger Train Enters Service in Ahmedabad
Indian Railways has started using a new kind of train in Ahmedabad that runs on liquefied natural gas (LNG) and diesel.
This is the first time such a train is being used for passengers in India.
The train can travel up to 2,200 kilometres on a single tank of LNG.
It is more efficient and produces fewer harmful gases than regular diesel trains.
The train has two power cars, each with 1,400 horsepower.
Using LNG helps save money and is better for the environment.
The train has completed trials and is now running normally.
Indian Railways plans to use this technology in more trains after further tests.
Indian Railways launched India's first LNG-powered passenger train in Ahmedabad.
The train can travel up to 2,200 kilometres on a single tank of LNG.
The dual fuel system combines LNG and diesel, reducing exhaust emissions significantly.
The conversion to LNG is expected to generate annual savings of Rs 23.9 lakh for an eight-coach DEMU train.
The technology is expected to be extended to eight to 10 additional trains after mandatory tests and approvals.
