Civil Supplies Officials Prepare to Seize Defaulting Millers’ Assets
Officials say some rice millers have not delivered rice owed to the government.
The government bought the paddy used to make that rice with public funds.
If inspectors find a shortfall, the miller will get a notice and seven days to respond.
If the dues are not resolved, authorities plan to pursue recovery under the Revenue Recovery Act.
District Collectors are expected to be able to order the seizure of movable assets.
These may include machinery, vehicles and bank accounts.
Training for civil supplies and revenue staff is scheduled to start October 5.
The training will cover inspections, evidence, paperwork and calculating claims.
Officials say the training is intended to help ensure recovery actions follow legal procedures.
District Collectors are to be authorised to issue distraint orders for movable assets of defaulting rice millers.
Assets subject to seizure may include rice mill machinery, vehicles and bank accounts.
