Luigi Mangione Court Hearing in CEO Killing Case

Luigi Mangione Court Hearing in CEO Killing Case

Luigi Mangione, a 27-year-old man, is accused of shooting and killing Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare, on a sidewalk in midtown Manhattan.

Mangione has pleaded not guilty to murder, stalking, and weapons charges.

He is due in court on Friday, where a judge will decide if certain evidence found in his backpack can be used in the trial.

The evidence includes a gun, a silencer, and journal entries.

Mangione's lawyers argue that the police searched his backpack illegally without a warrant, while prosecutors say the search was legal because Mangione was arrested for using fake identification.

The judge will also consider whether to throw out the indictment or block prosecutors from seeking the death penalty.

Jury selection is scheduled for early September.
