India's October GST Collections Rise 4.6% to ₹1.96 Lakh Crore
Imagine the government collects money from taxes to pay for things like roads and schools.
In October, the government collected about 4.6% more money from a tax called GST compared to last year, bringing in around ₹1.96 lakh crore.
This is the tenth month in a row that they've collected more than ₹1.8 lakh crore.
For the first seven months of the year (from April to October), the total GST money collected is about 9% higher than last year.
This increase happened even though some tax rates were lowered, which is good because it means people and businesses are spending more.
The government believes these tax cuts, along with strong holiday shopping, will help the economy grow.
Besides GST, the government also collected more money from income taxes, with a 6.33% increase.
India's GST collections in October reached approximately ₹1.96 lakh crore, a 4.6% increase year-on-year.
This marks the tenth consecutive month where GST revenues have surpassed the ₹1.8 lakh crore threshold.
For the April-October period of FY26, total GST collections grew by 9% to ₹13.89 lakh crore.
Net tax collections after refunds in October stood at ₹1.69 lakh crore, a modest 0.6% increase from the previous year.
India's net direct tax revenue for FY26 up to October 12 increased by 6.33% to over ₹11.89 lakh crore, driven by corporate and non-corporate tax receipts.
