India Rejects UN Panel Allegations of Rights Violations

India Rejects UN Panel Allegations of Rights Violations

A United Nations committee released a report about discrimination in India.

The committee said some scheduled tribes, scheduled castes and Rohingya refugees may have faced rights violations.

It also asked India to take action against people involved in hate crimes.

India disagreed with parts of the report.

A government spokesperson called the report’s references politically motivated and malicious.

He said India rejected those comments.

India also said it remains committed to fighting racial discrimination.

The two sides therefore gave different views about the report’s findings.
