Maharashtra Village Marks Dahi Handi With Well Jump Tradition

Dahi Handi is a festival game in which people try to break a pot.

In most places, people build human pyramids to reach it.

In Kurdus, the pot hangs above a large village well instead.

Three people help launch a fourth person toward the pot.

The jumper lands in the water inside the well.

Villagers say the activity has had no injuries so far, and they prepare the well before the festival.

The tradition began in 1992 with a few farming families.

More than 100 people of different ages can try the jump each year.

Videos on social media have brought visitors from nearby villages and other places.
