Japan eVisa Eligibility and Application Guide for Indians
Japan is making it easier for Indian travelers to visit by introducing an eVisa system.
Indian citizens can now apply for a tourist visa online or through VFS Global.
To get the visa, you need a valid passport, a photo, and documents showing your travel plans and financial stability.
The visa allows you to stay in Japan for up to 90 days.
The process usually takes about 5 days, but sometimes it can be faster.
There are plans to increase visa fees in 2026, but the current fees are around ₹450–₹500 plus a service fee.
This new system makes it simpler and quicker to plan a trip to Japan.
Japan offers two types of tourist visas for Indian citizens: a traditional sticker visa and a digital eVisa introduced in April 2024.
Indian citizens must meet specific eligibility criteria, including holding a valid ordinary passport, traveling for tourism, entering by air, and staying up to 90 days.
Applicants in India must apply through VFS Global, while eligible residents of certain countries can apply directly through Japan’s official eVisa portal.
Required documents include a valid passport, passport-size photograph, completed application form, cover letter, flight tickets, accommodation proof, financial proof, employment proof, travel insurance, and relationship proof if applicable.
The processing time for the visa is a minimum of 5 working days, with some approvals reported within 48 hours, and the visa is valid for 3 months with a stay permit of up to 90 days.
