Indian Army Plans Underground Defenses Along China, Pakistan Borders

The Indian Army wants to build protected spaces underground near its borders with China and Pakistan.

These spaces could help keep soldiers and important equipment safer during attacks.

Northern Command has 19 projects planned.

The Army invited companies to submit bids, with a November 7 deadline.

Some projects are meant for storing equipment and ammunition and for practices.

The Army is also considering underground facilities in the Siliguri corridor.

The Border Roads Organisation is building underground bunkers at some forward locations.

The plans reflect concern that modern weapons can make surface installations more vulnerable.
