Punjab High Court Upholds ITI Mandate for Lineman Jobs
The Punjab and Haryana High Court recently made a decision about job requirements for lineman positions.
The court said that only people with a specific ITI (Industrial Training Institute) certificate in electrician or wireman trade can apply for these jobs.
Some engineering graduates were unhappy because they thought their degrees should be enough to qualify.
They asked the court to change the rule, but the court decided to keep the ITI requirement as it is.
The court believed that the rule is fair and doesn't go against any laws.
So, for now, only people with the ITI certificate can apply for these lineman jobs.
Punjab and Haryana High Court dismissed petitions challenging PSTCL's ITI requirement for lineman jobs.
PSTCL's advertisement required a full-time ITI certificate in electrician or wireman trade for 350 assistant lineman and 150 assistant sub-station attendant posts.
Engineering graduates filed petitions arguing their degrees should suffice, but the court upheld the ITI requirement.
Justice Harpreet Singh Brar ruled that the condition does not violate constitutional guarantees.
The court noted that the advertisement clearly stipulated Punjabi at matriculation level along with ITI certificate.
