FIFPRO Europe Calls for FIFA Governance Overhaul After FFE Withdrawal

FIFPRO Europe is a group that represents professional football players in Europe.

It says FIFA needs to change how important decisions are made.

The group criticized a plan called Forward Enterprise, or FFE.

That plan was proposed by FIFA President Gianni Infantino and later withdrawn after strong opposition.

FIFPRO Europe said the plan might have allowed private investors to gain control over important football competitions.

It believes players, clubs and leagues should have a formal role in football governance.

The group supports giving more money to football development in smaller federations.

However, it says those funding plans should be created together rather than by one organization alone.

FIFA has argued in related court filings that some opposition reflects efforts to preserve Europe’s powerful position in football.
