ITR Filing 2026: Secondary Address Field Now Mandatory
Starting from the financial year 2025-26, the income tax department has made it mandatory to provide a secondary address in your income tax return forms.
This means, in addition to your primary address, you will need to provide another address where you can be reached.
This change applies to all types of taxpayers, including individuals, businesses, and companies.
The secondary address field is included in all ITR forms, such as ITR-1, ITR-2, and so on.
If you do not have a secondary address, you can simply indicate that it is the same as your primary address.
This new rule is meant to help the tax department send important notices and communications to the right address, especially if you have moved or have multiple addresses.
It can also be useful if you live in a rented place and claim house rent allowance.
If you make a mistake in your address details, you can correct it by filing a revised return by March 31, 2027.
The income tax department has introduced a mandatory secondary address field in all ITR forms for AY 2026-27.
Taxpayers must provide an additional communication address along with their primary address while filing ITR for the financial year 2025-26.
The secondary address field is included in all notified ITR forms, including ITR-1, ITR-2, ITR-3, ITR-4, ITR-5, ITR-6, and ITR-7.
If a taxpayer does not have a secondary address, they can indicate that it is the same as their primary address.
The new provision aims to make income tax reporting more accurate and reduce discrepancies, particularly for those claiming house rent allowance (HRA) under the old tax regime.
