Maharashtra Hikes Hostel Allowances for Students
The government in Maharashtra has decided to give more money to students living in its hostels.
These hostels are run by the Social Justice department.
This is a big help for thousands of students, as it's been a while since the last increase.
The money they get each month will be increased depending on where the hostel is located.
For example, students in divisional level hostels will now get Rs 1,500 instead of Rs 800.
Also, girls will receive more money for sanitary needs, increasing from Rs 100 to Rs 150.
This change started in September.
Maharashtra increased allowances for students in government-run hostels.
The decision was announced by the Social Justice department.
The new allowances vary based on hostel location (divisional, district, taluka).
Divisional level allowance increased to Rs 1,500 from Rs 800.
Sanitary allowance for girls also increased.
